Me, my, mine

I really hate it when I click on a link on some web page and the browser opens a new window to show it. The author of that page obviously believes that his page is so important that it has to remain active while I move on to look at something else. You know, if I want to keep the original page active (which I sometimes do, especially with good link pages) I simply click on the link with the middle button to open it in a new tab. I know better than you when I want to do this and when I don't, thank you very much.

Perhaps there is some extension to FireFox (or even a setting I can turn on) that prevents links from opening in a new window. Give me a hint in the comments if you know of one.

In Firefox 1.5, just enable the option "Edit -> Preferences -> Tabs -> Force links that open new windows to open in -> ...".

Thanks a lot. So obvious that I missed it. In pre-1.5, there used to be extensions for this purpose, but they never completely worked.
