First pause

Until now, I had always thought that a deist is someone who believes that there is a God but He doesn't interfere with the physical reality but merely observes it. But that is not the proper definition: a deist is someone who believes that there is a God, but the basis of belief in God should be reason and observation of reality instead of some mystic revelation. This view is often combined with the idea that in the beginning, God racked up the balls, made a perfect billiard shot and now just watches it unfold, but this is not necessary. Oh well, live and learn.
