Can't tolerate this
In Belgium, some right-wing extremist recently shot and killed two immigrants. Jussi Halla-Aho's latest essay "Belgian uusimmasta" discusses the meaning of this event.
In the world of strawmen, the "bigots" are confused when a member of the native population attacks an immigrant. But for me, the whole thing is crystal clear: no motive or prior injustice justifies attacking innocents. Killers must be put in jail regardless of their skin colour. The problems here are that as a result of multiculturalism, interracial crime is not discussed with a single measure, and due to the axioms of multiculturalism the objective analysis of the situation and the long-term corrective actions are impossible. The murder of Holsbeeck became international news (but just barely) when it turned out that the killers were not Arab.
The media made a huge sigh of relief when it turned out that the two killers were Polish. But for some reason, I never read anything about the two killers being Gypsies until I read Halla-Aho's another essay about this. Funny how that goes.
According to the church, media and politicians this was an isolated incident whose real underlying reason was "Western greed". One had to avoid oversimplification. But nobody has given any thought about the "real reasons" for this latest bloodshed (the fact that an act has complex causes doesn't make it justified), or warned against demonization of the native population.
By making a big noise about this one particular attack against immigrants and being silent about the constant violence to which immigrants subject the native population, media and political elite try to create an impression that the ethnic conflict that is firing up in Europe is about violence perpetrated by the native population whose victim the immigrant population is. Anybody who reads newspapers knows that this image is wrong. Creating false images and demonizing the native population based on single cases in unfair, but of course unfairness is an airy concept. A far more important thing to note here is that indoctrination based on half truths and untruths is dangerous. It angers the members of the native population who know better, and they will then in most cases misdirect their anger against all immigrants. It will also make the immigrants bitter, since propaganda makes immigrants genuinely believe that they are innocent victims of this conflict. This bitterness along with the fact that the political elite and media whitewash the immigrant violence by making up justifications for it makes immigrants more violent. Because according to the official interpretation, immigrants are the main victims and the native population are the main wrongdoers, all programs and campaigns aimed to resolve this conflict are naturally targeted to the native population to correct its erroneous attitudes. But it should be clear that if immigrants commit 90% of all crime between ethnic groups, but 100% of all campaigns for tolerance and against crime are targeted to the native population, this has no real effect on crime. It will actually increase crime, because in the manner depicted above, the "tolerant" indoctrination makes the already-violent immigrants to imagine themselves as victims, so that even when they do commit crimes, those crimes are justified and provoked by the native population.
This is a vicious circle. The only exit would be to admit that the main reason that ruins the relationship between ethnic groups and creates racism is the violence perpetrated by the immigrants and the fear that this creates in the native population. Quantitively the central problem is the criminal tendency of immigrants, and you can't solve it by giving the native population more diversity training and using the media to make a big fuss about the few marginal cases of violence targeted against immigrants. A Belgian killing a nonwhite is qualitatively equally bad as a nonwhite killing a Belgian, but statisticically the problem is that nonwhites kill Belgians, not the other way around. But it is not possible to exit this vicious circle because of the black and white way of thinking that is inherent in multiculturalism. Only good and evil exist. Racism is evil and multiculturalism is good. If you ever admitted that there was anything wrong with multiculturalism and immigrants, they would no longer be absolutely good, and it would follow that criticism of multiculturalism and immigrants (= racism) would no longer be absolutely evil. You can't let this camel put its nose inside the tent. Not being able to solve any problems and in fact only making them worse that is the price of this evasion is the lesser evil.
In fact, during this year I have noticed a few local examples about similarly creating false images. In March, a Somali man stabbed his wife to death in a parking lot in Suutarila, Helsinki. One of our major daily tabloids reported this event by proclaiming that "an immigrant woman was stabbed to death". Not one word about the nationality of the perpetrator or his relationship to his victim was mentioned. Of course, this story did not explicitly lie, but everybody probably understands what is the first scenario that the average reader will conjure up in his mind based on this news report, and the fact that this scenario is wrong in certain essential aspects. We could also ask what the goal of the chosen news reporting strategy is. Certainly not brainwashing, since only a paranoid nutcase nationalist could think that that is the reason.
At some point of spring I also read a news article titled "Violence against immigrants is becoming a serious problem". What kind of scenarios does this headline conjure up in your mind? Right. The content of this article was that the domestic violence that immigrant women face is a becoming a more serious problem. The perpetrators of violence were also immigrants. But you can't mention this, because by doing so you would give ammunition to racists. You write each title and story in a way so that the mass audience will only remember the politically correct, crystal clear Truth: violence against immigrants is becoming a serious problem. Then you can organize seminars and wonder what is wrong with Finns. The fact that the immigrant men, even more convinced about being mistreated victims, keep beating up their women, is a minor aside.
The fact that the Brussels killers were Gypsies underscores a point often forgotten given our paranoid, Islam-is-going-to-conquer-the world mindset, namely that many crime-prone groups in Europe are not Muslim. Examples of this abound. For instance, a recent crime survey in London that relied on vehicle-surveillance photographs showed that 60% of the crime suspects so identified were Caribbean; only 9% were (South) Asian, many of whom are Sikh or Hindu rather than Muslim. Antilleans, as Caribbeans are called, are also said to the most crime-prone group in the Netherlands, the Theo van Gogh murder notwithstanding. It is believed that many of the participants in last year's French riots were non-Muslim immigrants from sub-Saharan Africa, though the French government's reticence on ethnic statistics makes it hard to say for sure. And the ultra-violent Latin Kings gang has made major inroads among the hundreds of thousands of Latin American immigrants in Spain. Lastly, to return to the Brussels case, Gypsies have been heavily involved in crime in many countries, and for many years.
And yet, everyone seems to pay attention only to Muslim misbehavoir.
