Down in the zero
This
was perhaps before my time, but I have understood that a few decades
ago it was perfectly acceptable to say that there are too many Chinese
in the world and the growth of that number must be limited, ultimately
by forcibly limiting individual choices if necessary. Of course, China
itself behaves according to this principle with its one-child policy,
and other nations encourage it to do so.
A lot has happened during the last few decades, so I honestly don't know: would it be acceptable for a politically progressive person to say the same thing today and still maintain his progressive credentials? I know that it certainly wouldn't be acceptable if you substituted some other rapidly-growing ethnic groups for Chinese.
